Twink

Twink is a term from the gay scene. It describes young or youthful-looking gay men who are often small and slim and have no or only a few strongly masculine features.

However, the term is also problematic: the categorisation according to physique within the gay scene reproduces clichés and, for example, a person's sexual preferences are inferred from their appearance - twinks are often expected to be sexually submissive. In addition, the ideal of the twink reproduces characteristics that are considered attractive in society at large, such as low body fat, no wrinkles and a symmetrical face. This can trigger or exacerbate body problems in people who do not conform to this ideal.
