Breath control
Asphyxia means suffocation, although it actually refers to erotic asphyxia (German for breath control - see breath control), i.e. a practice in an erotic, consensual context. In contrast to breath control, asphyxia involves games in which the sub's breathing is suppressed for longer periods of time, even to the point of temporary unconsciousness.Even more than with simple breath control, asphyxia poses the risk of long-term damage or fatal outcome due to oxygen deprivation and/or cardiac arrest. It should therefore only be performed by people who are aware of the risks involved and have the necessary anatomical knowledge.
