Klismaphilia
Clismaphilia refers to the sexual preference for enemas.
During an enema, liquid, e.g. water or contrast medium, is passed through the anus into the bowel. Reasons for an enema are either diagnostic, therapeutic or cleansing measures, e.g. during fasting.
An enema is a collective term for the introduction of fluid into the bowel via the anus. This is done with the help of a thin plastic tube. The fluid is usually water at body temperature, X-ray contrast media or solutions mixed with certain medications, which are then absorbed through the intestinal mucosa.
The amount of fluid introduced depends on the patient's age and general condition as well as the reason for the application. There are systems for single use such as the enema or klysma (200 to 300 millilitres) or the microenema (5 millilitres). They consist of a squeeze bag and a syringe. Other systems are reusable (after sterilisation), e.g. balloon syringes or tubes attached to containers. If the enema is to be used further up the digestive tract, some systems can be extended with an intestinal tube.
In addition to enema and enema, a distinction is also made between colonic irrigation, in which the bowel is flushed with large quantities of liquid until the liquid comes out clear.
