Cis

Cis describes a person whose gender identity matches the sex assigned to them at birth. The term is used as the counterpart to trans and is mainly employed in social, medical, and academic contexts. It says nothing about sexual orientation, bodily characteristics, or a person’s lived experience of gender.

In BDSM and sexuality contexts, the term is mainly relevant when identities, roles, or forms of address need to be described precisely. It should be understood as a neutral classification, not as a value judgment. What matters is respecting each person’s self-identification and using the terms and forms of address they prefer.
