Butch

Butch is a term from LGBTQ+ culture, especially lesbian communities, and refers to a person who presents in a more masculine way or is read as masculine. The term mainly describes style, presentation, or a gendered role association, not necessarily a fixed sexual or social function.

Historically, butch was often used in lesbian relationships to describe a person with a more masculine presentation. Today, however, the term is broader and should not be reduced to rigid roles or stereotypes. External features such as short hair or certain clothing may appear, but they are not defining characteristics.

In BDSM or role-play-related contexts, butch may also appear as a self-description or stylistic label. The key is to respect the person and their own chosen label rather than drawing fixed expectations from the term.
